Energy Label Reform: A Short Guide

WHAT’S HAPPENING?
From 1st March 2021, new energy ratings will come into effect for refrigeration, dishwashers, washing machines and washer dryers.
_________
WHAT’S THE CHANGE?
Prior to 1st March 2021, energy label ratings are A+++ to D. These will change to A to G. This is because the A+++ to A classes are overpopulated and need streamlining. The conversion from the old ratings to the new won’t necessarily be straightforward because of factors including more energy efficient components and different criteria.
_________
NO LESS EFFICIENT…
If an appliance was, for example A+ and is now F, it does not mean that the energy efficiency has ‘lowered’. It just means that the new scale implemented is encouraging more advances in technology and leaving space at the top for even more energy efficient appliances to be developed in the future.
_________
DOING BETTER FOR THE PLANET:
The A and B categories will be empty for a while to leave space for these advances and new appliances. More energy efficient components which will be used include invertor motors and eco washing programmes.
_________
TWO LABELS FOR A WHILE:
Products will have both the old and new energy label between the 1st November and 28th February 2021. From 1st March 2021 just the new energy label needs to be supplied.
_________
EASY QR CODES
The new energy labels will also have a QR code so that you can easily find out more energy details of a product.
